Milton Keynes 2s started the season with a trip to Bisham Abbey to face a Wycombe side who they have had good games against over the last few years. MK started in good spirits with new and returning faces to bolster the side. In the open exchanges the teams were closely matched with both teams sizing each other up. MK got the breakthrough first following good work up front leaving Vaughn Watson one on one with the keeper, and much to the delight of his team mates, he coolly slotted the ball home for what he hopes will be the first of many for the season.
Chances continued to come for both sides, but fortunately for MK, Sam Spencer’s goal keeping is significantly better than his mathematical ability, and was able to keep the Wycombe forwards at bay. Eventually the Wycombe pressure told and a couple of neat finishes left MK 2-1 down at half time.
The second half continued in a similar fashion with short corners and chances coming for both teams, but with MK unable to find an equaliser before another neat finish put Wycombe 3-1 up. MK kept up the pressure with youngsters Declan Lygo-Baker and Kartik Anand continuing to try and find gaps in the well organised Wycombe defence, but the final score finished 3-1 to the hosts. Honourable mentions to Dave Breuilly and Vaughn Watson who put their bodies on the line, but unfortunately in this case getting in the way of “well-directed” shots and clearances from their teammates.
Next up MK host Banbury with MK looking to get off the mark for the season.
Man of the match: Vaughn Watson – Constant harrying of the opposition and calmly taken goal
Dick of the day: Dave Breuilly – Unable to operate a handbrake and questionable navigational skills; Dan Judkowski - Unable to play hockey and questionable passing skills (by his own admission!)
