Fortress MK holds strong

After coming off a disappointing away game last week the Men’s 2nds were out to get back to winning ways with a home game against bottom on the league Newbury and Thatcham. Also good news Dan made it on time this week.

The game was very open throughout with end to end hockey but on one of many early breaks Milton Keynes won a short corner which was dispatched by one of Callum’s drag flicks. This woke up the visiting team who camped themselves in our 25 looking for the equaliser but they couldn’t break through our defence who held strong and kept it at 1-0.

After this spell of pressure Milton Keynes managed to take control of the game with a large spell of possession with a high transfer set up penning the visiting team in their own half. The high level of possession was creating many opportunities for MK to extend the lead but Newbury’s defence held strong for now.

Eventually tiredness kicked in for Newbury and they gave away another short corner and again Callum’s drag flick was called upon, did the ball go where he said it would, no but it was in the back of the goal and that’s all that mattered making it 2-0

There were some great defensive plays at the end of the 1st half with Kingy intercepting a pass straight off their 16 yard hit which set him up with a scoring opportunity… shame he’s not a striker and it stayed at 2-0.

Going into half time Milton Keynes talked about keeping up the discipline as no cards were awarded in the first half as well as game management by going out with the mentality to win the second half.

Just like the first half the second was a very open game with fast breaks for both teams and dangerous plays within both D’s. Sam in net for Milton Keynes controlled his defence well and took a stick to the helmet in one of Newbury’s attacks which unfazed him.
Milton Keynes had a few breaks where players where through on goal but the moment got to them and the plays did not develop, keeping it at 2-0

Later on in the half, much like the 1st half, Milton Keynes took control of the possession and the tired Newbury team had lost their fight which allowed Kav to be played in on goal but an interesting first touch had us all thinking he had wasted the chance and ready to give him the DOD vote, but he showed of his skill to put away the shot from a tight angle to make it 3-0 and put the game to bed.

Final Score 3-0 to MK

MoM: James Evans. Because we all want to be picked next week.
DOD: Kav. For missing a sitter and using his stick as an axe.
