MK Men 2 vs Newbury & Thatcham

James Evans21 Sep - 20:12

3-1 win

The aim of the first game of the season was not only to set the tone for the season, but also to grasp the press as well as to establish the young players stepping up to the performance squad.

Milton Keynes’ first goal came from a beautiful run through multiple defenders from Alex W who transferred it across the pitch to Sam K, who sent it into the circle. After a couple of rebounds, new M2's skipper Oli was able to get the ball across the line for Milton Keynes’ first goal. 1-0

The second goal for Milton Keynes came from our one and only short corner of the game. A clinical drag flick from Mitch into the top left.

Perhaps the most surprising event of the second half was Reece managing to pick a deflected ball just outside the 23 on the half turn. So far, so good, until he tripped over and ended up face down on the pitch much to the amusement of the crowd, teammates and opposition.

After scoring one, Mitch was hungry for more and was able to upright reverse it into the net to all but secure the win for Milton Keynes.

Inevitably after many minutes of successful pressing, the MK legs were getting tired and after a speedy counterattack, Newbury were able to close the gap to 3-1.

Not only did the team start the season with 3 points on the board, but the team successfully utilised the press to hold off the opposition for a lovely 3-1 win.

Big shoutout to the youngsters who stepped up, and showed that they have the raw talent to play at a high level.
