Milton Keynes 1st XI travelled to Portsmouth this weekend for what proved to be an exciting and hard fought encounter. Despite a strong attacking performance and plenty of chances, MK came away with a 5–3 defeat against a well drilled and experienced Portsmouth side.
From the outset, Milton Keynes showed real intent moving the ball well, creating sustained pressure, and winning multiple short corners. The team carved out a number of scoring opportunities, but Portsmouth’s defence and goalkeeper proved difficult to break down.
MK’s persistence eventually paid off when Weeble produced a superb deflection into the top right corner from a fizzing ball fired into the D by the centre back. Crank then added a powerful drag flick that rattled the backboard, and Breuilly followed up with a well placed push flick into the back of the net after reacting quickest to a rebound off the keeper.
Despite the attacking highlights, Portsmouth’s experience showed as they took their chances clinically and managed the game well in key moments, ensuring they held onto the lead through to the final whistle.
There were plenty of positives for Milton Keynes to take sharp attacking play, determination across the pitch, and clear signs of progress as the season builds.
