Milton Keynes started their season with a pre-season match against local opponents Harpenden in glorious sunshine at Woughton on the Green with main aim to go out and enjoy the match. The game started in even fashion with MK debutants Danny and Calum bringing youthful energy to the middle of the park. The youngsters of Ethan, Isaac and Gareth applied pressure through-out to the Harpenden back line forcing a mistake with the ball falling to Luis who finished with aplomb in the top corner to give MK a 1-0 lead. Both teams continued to search for the next goal with no clear cut chances created. MK then showed good game management with Mitch and Callum holding possession to see out the first half when reduced to 10 men with Danny earning a green card for playing football a bit too obviously.
The second half saw Harpenden in the ascendency with Jon and Lemon, who were sharing keeper responsibility, both having to make sharp saves. Eventually Harpenden found the equaliser late on through a well worked short corner, but this didn't deter MK who went in search of a winner. This came following a driving run and shot from Calum with James on hand to get the deft touch at the far post in what will likely be his only goal of the season. MK weren't done there and were able to add a third courtesy of a trademark Mitch drag flick as the clock ticked over to full time, giving MK a 3-1 victory.
Overall a really positive performance to start the season with further pre-season games against Saints, Bedford and Towcester to come.
