Milton Keynes M3s 4-0 Abingdon M1s

After results in other leagues conspired to put the 3s in technical danger of relegation, MK knew that a win at home to tough opposition in the form of Abingdon would make them absolutely certain of safety without relying on other results. A fairly even first half perhaps saw MK enjoying more possession, but a few lapses gave Abingdon their chances. Fortunately, keeper Duncan Pickering was more than ready to answer the call and made some solid saves to keep the score at 0-0. MK eventually got the breakthrough thanks to some quick thinking from Nick Lygo-Baker in sending a quick free-hit to Sam Bushell who finished it off. No further goals went in, leaving MK with a 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately, Sam Bushell's contribution ended fairly early in the second half after his nose lost a fight with something rather more solid. Things heated up in the second half with a number of players earning spells on the sidelines. Abingdon briefly went down to nine following a green and yellow card in quick succession, and MK managed to get a second with Ben Spencer eventually finishing off a short corner opportunity. MK themselves later went down to nine for a period with Ben Spencer earning a yellow for what may very generously be described as a tackle, shortly to be joined on the sidelines by Will Luther after the latter decided to have a discussion with the umpire. MK held firm throughout that time, however, up until an Abingdon player earned themselves an extended yellow card for their comments. The umpires then made absolutely certain that cooler heads prevailed and prevented further cards taking their toll on the game, and though the remainder of the game was played in much calmer spirits, MK kept up the intensity in their play and added two more with breaks down the left allowing Nick Lygo-Baker to set up first Ben Spencer and then David McMillan to make things safe and let the team enjoy a well-earned end-of-season curry.
