Training pays off

Milton Keynes 3s got back on the winning track with an important 2-1 victory away to Sonning. The 3s started strongly, the high mid-week training turnout proving effective, putting Sonning under pressure and winning a couple of short corners. The first short corner when narrowly wide, however, a good routine allowed David McMillan to set up Sam Bushell and give MK the lead. Things then went a bit downhill as Will Luther was perhaps harshly given a green card following a stick tackle, and in articulating his disagreement with the decision earned an upgrade to a yellow card. Despite being down to ten, MK continued to pressure Sonning and managed to double the lead with Ben Spencer putting the ball away with a very nice reserve-stick finish. MK continued to create chances in the first half, hitting the post and shooting wide a few more times but couldn't make any further breakthroughs in the half.

The second half was a bit more of the game, with MK putting Sonning under a good amount of pressure. Things were a bit quieter on the umpiring front, though Will Luther gave himself a second short rest with an over-eager tackle at the halfway line. MK created some more chances but couldn't quite find the final ball in the D to make the game safe. Indeed, Sonning made the final stages nervous against an otherwise solid defensive performance when one of their forwards managed to lose their man at the back post to leave it a one-goal game. However, MK held on for a very important 3 points in the quest for guaranteed safety.

MoM - Corey Jamieson
DoD - Will Luther
