Milton Keynes were home to Lewes on a considerably warmer Saturday afternoon than they had played in for the previous two weeks. However the weather wasn’t perfect with gale force winds almost whisking away some of the smaller members of the team. MK were eager to get out and warmed up but were delayed by Andrew Pettefer who was exploring his feminine side returning from an arts and crafts fair in Birmingham. With a couple more wise words from Coach Dad MK were lined up and ready to follow up from a good win last week away at Henley.

MK starting strongly, creating chances through Liam Foster and Ali McColl along with the rest of the forward line all looking to find short corners which was a main focus of that week’s training. Steven Ruse with an incredible work rate tackling back and making it harder for Lewes to form any kind of attack. Unfortunately nothing came from the multiple chances made by MK with the Lewes keeper having an outstanding game. A pacey left winger for Lewes however conducted an attack which lead to them being ahead at half time. 0-1.

During half time we were instructed not to panic and keep calm as we still felt the game could easily be turned around. MK soaked up any pressure from Lewes with the Anderson center back combo denying any goal scoring opportunities. A strong move down the left hand side lead to Ali McColl smashing a reverse stick high into the net beating the Lewes goalkeeper with power. After that MK continued controlling the game with Lightning Hands Dodd and Frazer McColl both causing havoc within the Lewes defence. One of these chances was finished by the normally absent Luke Stone who blasted in a rebound off the keeper. A couple of minutes later Luke Stone had another goal scoring opportunity but was stopped mid-swing due to Frazer McColl sustaining a head injury. A short corner was then won following a promising attack which was neatly slotted away by Tom Murtagh. Lewes then tried to get back in the game and snatched a late consolation goal, making the final score 3-2. This was topped off by Andrew Pettefer providing a blast from the past with Lion King being played post-match.
