The Story Goes...

On another damp Saturday, 7 Days on from their valiant performance against OGs, Milton Keynes prepared to face 2nd in the league Havant. The squad were confident that they could get a result and this was reflected in the quality of their preparation, despite Nick Gagé having a Rendezvous in the middle of the warm up, keen to prove he had no Woman Trouble.

Milton Keynes began the game positively, playing the ball around assuredly despite the heavy pressure from Havant. The backline looked confident on the ball, with Ian Cooper and Tom Anderson playing some neat hockey at times, Unbelievable some might say… Scott Craig and Andy Pettefer weren’t in a charitable mood with their old friends from Havant and limited the opposition to just one PC in the 1st half, there was no Hidden Agenda. Then midway through the 1st half MK decided to turn it on and Liam Foster won a PC of MK’s own. This was duly converted by Jamie Dodd. It was Hot Stuff! This increased MK’s confidence and they began to fashion more chances with Mikey Gilson unfortunate not to score when 1-on-1 with their Keeper. Milton Keynes continued to build pressure after this with Stephen Ruse and Frazer McColl continuing not to give anything away in midfield and linking the side well. Then at the end of the half Ali McColl was Slicker Than Your Average and produced a wonderful reverse stick strike to score what MK thought was their 2nd goal. Alas it wasn’t to be and the goal was disallowed for a perceived earlier infringement leaving an MK player asking the umpire can you Fill Me In.

At half time CoachDad was pleased with the quality of the MK performance, but was keen to impress on them there was still another 35 minutes to be played and they needed to take it All the Way.

At the beginning of the 2nd half Havant came out hard and after a short time managed to force their second penalty corner of the game. Unfortunately this time their routine took a deflection which wrong footed Gagé and they were back on level terms. Despite this setback MK tried to push for a second with Tom Murtagh orchestrating the play, certainly not getting Stuck in the Middle. Yet again though Havant scored, despite a valiant attempt from beloved leader Nick Anderson to clear the ball off the line. Following this Milton Keynes continued to create chances, the best falling to Eric Watkins on the back post, but still MK were to be denied – the Havant GK putting in a top quality performance. Havant finally rounded off the scoring with about 5 minutes to go as their forward managed to deflect in a well delivered pass into the D.

This was an excellent team performance by MK and slightly more clinical finishing could have seen a better result, but that is the Rise & Fall of Hockey.

Up in the bar one MK player was spotted chatting to their star drag flicker after the game and upon offering to buy him a drink was overheard asking him What’s you Flava?*
