Milton Keynes Ladies 2nd XI travelled away to take on Oxford University Ladies 3rd XI last weekend.
With a last minute change to their keeper, the MK ladies set out on their fight to earn some much needed league points.
Oxford started with a quick attack, putting the visitors on the early defence but once settled MK held their structure and began to use their strong press high up the pitch, forcing Oxford to play balls into areas MK were happy to control. With nothing coming from MK's early attacks, Oxford found a gap and quickly advanced on the MK D, and a neat shot from the top of the D saw the MK keeper narrowly miss the ball hitting the backboard.

An injury to the opposition led to an early break for both teams, and when the game resumed MK had a clear plan of attack. Setting up camp in the Oxford half, Jane Gibbs (#whosJane?) soon found her stride intercepting a transfer from the Oxford defence, being unfortunate not to gain the equaliser.

Half time came and Oxford still had the lead, but on the restart MK continue where they had left off pushing forwards and forcing Oxford to look for gaps in the neat press MK held. Mally Dolphin found Pia Jackson many times giving MK a quick attack down the right hand side, with Susan Watkins and Lana Camp making lead runs giving MK many opportunities to get a strike on goal, however the ball found its way across goal without deflection.

Some well timed transfers from Lizzie Dale to Sonia Fraser to find Vikki Alexander on left gave MK some space and after a leading run from Trish O'Rourke MK finally had their equalising goal. O'Rourke made a efficient pass through an Oxford players legs to Amy Hunt making a run across the pitch. Once Hunt had control she took the ball quickly into the D and saw her moment to strike, leaving the Oxford keeper watching it past her left foot.

Now equal again - both teams were determined to be the one with the winner. The game continued end to end with some nervy short corners being easily cleared by MK 'keeper' Chrissy Little sending the ball back into Oxford's half. Lauren Hooton kept her cool in the middle, distributing to Fran Shepherd who's continued high work rate found her unmarked in space on numerous occasions. Even with the opportunities, MK were unable to find the winning touch, and the game ended 1:1
