On a big day for all involved at MK hockey club, the mens 1s faced up against a Staines team who were out to look to ruin the celebrations.
Once everyone had arrived and had their party outfits on, the fun and games could begin. A quick start from MK led to a 2-0 lead before many had chance to fully realise the enormity of the occasion, with a game of hot potato at the back nearly gifting Staines a surprise goal. Luckily a scuffed shot meant the only thing in the goal was a relieved defender, and so the party carried on.
Tom Murtagh then took to the swing of things, and with a run not dissimilar to a child refusing to let go of a pass the parcel, he hit the D and released a reverse stick shot sweetly into the bottom corner. 3-0 MK.
Up until this point Staines for the most part didn’t look like causing too much trouble, but with many of the MK team were still playing hide and seek too enthusiastically a defensive error let Staines in to score what would turn out to be a consolation goal.
To half time, and with some stern words capable of blowing out many cakes worth of candles, MK were back on it. Quick goals and a Liam Foster tear away in the stick and ball race, allowing him to cooly round the goalie and finish, allowed MK to see off the game and eventually come out 6-1 victors. Somewhere along the way Mikey Goalson and Fraz raided the sweetie jar, ran over 10k and scored 2 goals each, but this wasn’t enough to win them Man of the match, which was instead stolen from them by a mean girl just as it was time for everyone to go home.
