Today marked the first game of the season, and with only 2 training sessions under our belt, this game would be the first opportunity for each of the boys to play together in this team.
Both teams started nervously with MK having the early breaks. Good work from Ned, Martin, Louis and Declan leading to some quick breaks.
Good positional play from Harvey and Aaron meant we were able to intercept the opposition passes and release the pressure from defence through Mitch and Jamie with relative ease.
As the game progressed OMT became more confident on the ball and had several skilful players who started to run at our defence opening up chances. With some exceptional keeping from Dylan the side were staying on level terms,
As the pressure mounted OMT started to create shooting chances and just before half time this pressure paid off as they took the lead with a well placed push into the bottom corner.
A quick reshuffle of the defence at halftime to cope with the opposition pace and we were set for the 2nd half. The game set off at a good pace and before long MK had earnt their first penalty corner of the match.
As the game progressed the strong OMT side became to carve greater chances and before long they managed to grab a second goal. With some tenacious tackling from Matt and Alex MK began to get back into the game and successfully won several free hits and penalty corners.
However, as the game went on tiredness began to set in the the game became more scrappy and end to end. As the MK defence were stretched OMT managed to score a 3rd with a well struck hit.
Whilst the game ended in defeat there were lots of positives that can be taken from the game with a few elements we can build on in next weeks training. Well done all.
