The match today was a mix of excellence and reverting to old behaviours.
Before the match the discussion was to focus on possession and keeping the ball wide using the wing backs. In the first 15 minutes the team put this into practice and were able to score an early goal off of Mark Ling and a defender. The midfield were pushing the ball wide and using the back channels to move the ball around.
Old habits started to creep in with players carrying the ball into the opposition for a quick turnover. The Oxfords Hawks counter-attack attempted to overload the defense but Paul Davis and James McConnell were having a cracking game and emulating Gandalf level defense. Both players were seen carrying the ball up into the defenders 25 and sniffing around for some goals.
The wing back sub rotation kept this critical role working with fresh legs, unfortunately the team is still attempting to push through congested defense rather than putting into practice what is covered in training and moving the ball across field.
All in all a good effort all round.
