Ladies 2s travelled away to Reading this weekend. The long journey put Milton Keynes in the perfect position to “trick” Reading Ladies 3s on a lethargic warm up, to then hit them hard from the whistle.
From Go, Milton Keynes kept the majority of the possession in the oppositions half, but were unfortunate to convert this into goals. Any slip-ups saw some great last line collections from Janet Millar, to ensure that Nicola Lush didn’t have to touch the ball. Cheers Janet. Half time; 0-0. Inspirational team talk required.
Second half started with a bang and within minutes Susan Watkins was able to convert a goal from the ugly zone. The goal was in no way ugly. 1-0. Play continued. After some transferring around the back Sophie Wombwell sent the perfect pass to Pia Jackson who naturally performed a PSRDTR (Pia Speed Run Down The Right). Reading were quick to swarm her in their 25, and a composed pass back to Vikki Alexander deceived them nicely. Some short sharp passes between Sofie Sokolowski and Vikki worked Milton Keynes’s way into the D, and a cross found Fran Shepherd top D. Straight to the back board. 2-0.
The scoreline put Reading on edge, which Lizzie Dale and Chrissie Little caught the brunt of. The team spirit encouraged Milton Keynes not to get involved any further and to play our game. More opportunities arising; namely a beautiful hit from Lisa Kav to the front line (#SoGoodItHadToBeAdmiredByLisa). Sofie picked this up to win Milton Keynes a Short Corner. Although the short didn’t amount to a goal, Milton Keynes did get another chance with a Long Corner. Sonia Fraser stepped up to the plate and suavely found Sofie in the D who raised it into the back of the net. 3-0. Game Over Reading. #TeamworkEqualsDreamwork
