Martin Kavanagh continued his excellent preseason goal scoring form as Milton Keynes Men's 2s beat Northampton Saints 2s 6-1 at home.
MK started as brightly as the sun that was beating down on the pitch, but despite the strong start, they struggled to make a breakthrough.
The opening goal did finally come thought thanks to James Evans. The left-back cut inside after a good move down the wing and smashed the ball into the bottom corner.
Just before the break the visitors drew level in comical fashion. A weak shot from the top of the D somehow managed to dribble into the goal despite opportunities to clear it.
After half time MK came out all guns blazing and soon re-established their lead. Midfielder Mark Sibson picked out Martin Kavanagh with an aerial pass from half way and the striker smashed the ball home on the second attempt.
Moments later Sibson raced on to a through ball but was clattered by the Saints keeper. The ball bounced kindly and Giac Palmiero rolled it into an empty net.
Palmiero had the bit between his teeth and soon added his second of the game. The striker was calmness personified as he picked the ball up in the D and slipped it between the keeper's legs to make it 4-1.
The visitors had nothing in response to MK's speed on the break and Vaughn Wilson to give MK a four goal cushion. The young striker found himself in space in the D and placed it past the keeper to score his first goal for the 2s.
And the rout was completed with the best goal of the day. MK played the ball brilliantly down the line, calving the Saints defence open before Kavanagh slotted home from close range to make it 6-1
