Ballad of the Southdowns

After a gutsy performance last week against Henley,

MKHC had to venture much further than Shenley.

So after a push back start time quarrel,

We headed down to the seaside to look at the coral.

With a strong squad and winning form,

Down to the south MK cars did swarm.

Despite crafty speed cameras and Coops’ navigation,

At Lewes they arrived, full of expectation.

At the start of the game, before Lewes could get all tackley,

Ginge launched an aerial like a javelin from Steve Backley.

Whilst it bounced with too much zip for Frazer to get,

MK had straight away shown their attacking threat.

Once more we showed menace down the right wing,

With the tenacity and persistence of a young Marlon King.

Then with Tom A and Mikey on P-spot and back post,

They combined to show how deadly they are on the south coast.

Then Milton Keynes had to ride out a storm,

But with Gagé as unbeatable as a young Michel Vorm

And Pettefer and the skipper as vocal as ever,

Lewes tried to attack and we said “Yeah, whatever.”

Coops, with his Vapour Rub, like Alain Baxter,

Was as tight with his marking as a Ron Hill trackster.

Scott was at home, down in the Antarctic

And Chaz found his southern adventure very cathartic.

So it was that the first half ended 1-0,

With a single goal from Mikey, son of Gil.

Then the architect of our success, our Christopher Wren,

Got out his mini whiteboard and his felt tip pen.

With their instructions, the chaps took to the field,

And soon after their hard work produced a good yield.

Lewes failed to mark MK’s Mahrez and Vardy,

Giving Tom and Mikey space to create, how foolhardy!

Anderson chipped over the keeper towards Ruse,

But a defender finished for us with a touch that was loose.

So one Anderson had succeeded in his aim to please,

Before, moments later, his brother was shown the cheese.

With one player fewer, MK opened up some space,

Giving Leroy and Usain Dodd a chance to use their pace.

Newcombe got involved and a corner was won,

So MK assembled, Ginge ready to fire the gun.

A drag-push gently bounced off the right of the posts,

Then Fraz latched onto it before any of our hosts.

He sent it goalwards and thought he had scored,

But Goalson got a touch before it hit the backboard.

The game opened up in the final quarter,

But Milton Keynes’ defence was strong as bricks and mortar.

They provided a platform to launch attacks from,

One of which was neatly tucked away by Tom.

So having weathered the storm of the 1st half tensions,

MK showed more resilience than the Secretary of Work and Pensions.

The 2nd half performance sealed a comfortable victory,

And with their choice of MoM I couldn’t be contradictory.

After the game, in the clubhouse at Lewes,

We sampled the produce of the local brewers.

Sat around, each with a pint,

Watching Italy play rugby against Dafydd and Geraint.

So next week we charge towards securing 6th place,

But difficult opposition we’ll face.

As we prepare Fortress Woughton for the arrival of Spencer,

The mood in the South region couldn’t be tenser…
