You're going to have to do better than that to score against the Great Gagé

Things felt good this week, there was a buzz in the air (although somewhat drowned out by Jamie’s brand new playlist, which was surprisingly good) it was definitely there if you listened closely, luckily we were listening... we felt the buzz.

The all too familiar smell of deep heat started to invade my nostrils and I knew our captain was back, in fact all three Andersons were back. Ginge had also returned after having to extend his rigorous off season cycling regime.

My nervous foot stopped tapping and a calmness fell over me, that was until I saw Coops performing some strange ritual* in the corridor involving an elastic band and some smelling salts, possibly something he had picked up from his latest forays on tinder.

I looked at my teammates and it looked like the Christmas festivities hadn't left them in too bad a shape. Many of the team had even used the time effectively by growing themselves beards to protect from the cold.

Coach was back this week and he looked happy, he knew the performance was coming and all his boys needed to do was concentrate to bag the win.

The game began and MK were quick out of the blocks to pressure London Wayfarers. It wasn't long until a nice passing move released Jamie down the right wing where he smashed the ball into the D, it hit Liam’s stick and fell at his feet for a simple tap in.

1-0 Milton Keynes

Shortly after we found ourselves down to 10 men, Scott looking pretty shady, but warm with his trampy beard was given a green for not retreating 5 and the opposition were awarded a short corner.

Milton Keynes surrounded the umpire asking for a video referral, but after review the 3rd umpire could give no advice, possibly because the game wasn't being recorded.

Although the distance between Ginge sitting on the floor at the point of first offence and where Scott made his tackle was further than the 5 it couldn't be used as sufficient evidence of fair play. Chaz was heard muttering something incomprehensible with perhaps the words Thatcher and unemployment and persecution coming out.

Luckily the shot went wide and from the resulting 16 Tom and Nick Anderson played the ball back and forth for 2 minutes as Wayfarers held a very disciplined half court press.

Milton Keynes created further chances, but lacked the bite in the D to capitalise on their D penetrations.

Half Time - there was a team talk, people drank water oh and we changed ends.

The team took to the field for the second half with rapturous applause from the crowd.

Luke and Mikey took it in turns to fail to score before Fraz broke a tackle and provided a ball across the D, which Liam expertly put home to double our lead.

We defended well throughout and controlled the play any chances Wayfarers had were snuffed out by Gage in goal. A rare cleansheet was on the cards and the defence could smell the fantasy points on offer.

Coops so intoxicated by this prospect of fantasy points was seen leaning against a 5 a side goal off to the side of the pitch leaving one of their players asking if he was actually playing.

In the closing few minutes a bit of ill-discipline saw Eric pick up a green and then Frazer went for a yellow after breaking up play, resulting in a short.

The final whistle blew, the shortcorner was to be the final play of the game, the flick was expertly cleared off the line.

2-0 win for Milton Keynes

After the game some excellent beers were drunk in the shower. Ali our resident fashionista had us dressed to impress with us all sporting blazers #mensfashion.

This is where I left our story, but I'm told there was much witty banter in the bar and smiles all around.

Next week we travel to Old Cranleighans the team above us and have the chance to close the gap to 3 points.

*Apparently he was stretching, i'm also not sure there were smelling salts, but something didn't seem quite right.
