And so, after a busy transfer window and a promising preseason, with much excitement MK 1st XI got their season under way at home against Oxford Hawks.
With the pre game music clearly intimidating the opponents, MK got off to the best possible start with Luke winning the ball in midfield and with some strong running carved out a chance for Mikey to put MK in the lead with the first goal of the season. An English defence struggling to tackle an Australian, who saw that coming…
The lead didn't last long though, with Hawks winning a corner and managing to still convert despite the initial shot blocked.
Next it was MK’s turn to score from a scrappy corner, when a quickly re-jigged routine found Ali, who slotted home to restore the lead.
That lead was then cancelled out before half time, and then the opposition took the lead shortly after the break from another corner.
The game then became very tight, with neither side giving much away. MK were pushing throughout, and it finally paid dividends when a break down the right led to a cross from Jamie being finished again by Mikey, leading to a wild solo celebration.
Once more the game became tense, and MK were incredibly unfortunate to concede another short corner. With only a few minutes remaining, Hawks managed to convert their corner with a ferocious* flick finding it’s way into the MK goal past the unnamed defender who valiantly* tried but failed to keep it out.
Despite MK’s best efforts, the game finished without further score, leaving MK to look to the next fixture to rebuild and come back stronger.
